Treatment Modalities of Leukemia

Most feared blood borne Cancer Leukemia is not incurable, however it takes the survivor so close to death that its scars takes years to heal.

There are more than 15 million Cancer survivors under the age of 21 in United States alone. With increasing research in anti-cancer drugs and early detection of the disorder, it has been possible to reduce the fatalities due to Cancer and Leukemias in the recent few years.
Researches are focussed under many areas like etiologies, methods of prevention, anticancerous diets and lifestyles, oncogenic potential of therapeutic radiations and natural solar radiation, drug effects in various types of cancers.

The terms Leukemia and Lymphoma are often confused with each other. Leukemia is used for neoplasms with widespread involvement of the bone marrow and sometimes also the peripheral blood whereas, lymphoma is used for proliferations that arise as discrete tissue masses.
Leukemias are broadly classified into two groups viz. lymphoid and myeloid. Again , each of these are divided into acute and chronic. So, the four common types of leukemia are:
a. Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia / Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
b. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
c. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
d. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)

Here is a short presentation on "Treatment of Leukemias" .
