Bachelor of Dental Surgery is a five and a half year course in Nepal including one year compulsory rotatory internship.
The four and half years training duration is further divided into two phases: Basic sciences and pre-clinical phase (first two years) and Clinical Phase ( two and half years after phase one).

The core curriculum for the BDS program is composed of Basic Medical Sciences (Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology and Pharmacology), General Medicine, General Surgery and Anesthesiology. The Dental Science includes Dental Materials, Oral biology, Oral Pathology, Community Dentistry, Forensic Odontology, Oral Medicine and Radiology,
Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Oral surgery & Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.

In Nepal, the degree is provided by Tribhuwan University and Kathmandu university through its affiliated colleges whereas B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan is an autonomous body providing the degree.
